Cook the basmati rice according to package instructions and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the sliced Chinese five-spice sausage and cook for 5-7 minutes until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-5 minutes until they are translucent.
Add the cooked rice to the skillet with the onions. Stir in soy sauce and mix well.
Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and combine with the rice and onions. Cook for another 3-5 minutes until everything is heated through.
Garnish with chopped scallions before serving.
